Artist statement: UR NEW YORK ( 2esae & ski )

As artists we’ve always appreciated Woodword gallery because they live for art, so when we were given the opportunity we were really excited, honored truly. We wanted to do something new and creative for us, and for them; we took silk screening to the next level. We figured we could work in the projection style, but paint everything by hand. We’re proud of what we put together for them, it gave us such a an appreciation for artists who work all by hand, ultimately it resulted in us feeling more at one with the piece, it was a truly therapeutic experience.
Title: Eye of the Beholder
With Eye of the Beholder, we were attempting to symbolize the struggles within achieving greatness. In art everyone is watching you, what’s the next step? What is your potential greatness? What can you achieve? There is this sense of urgency, so we produce, trying to appease that constant demand. We had to ask ourselves, how do we keep our pieces from becoming stagnant, how do you continually create at a fast pace but always push the bar, always maintain that level of quality, of mastery, that’s the challenge. When it came to working with Woodward, we thought through was how will we take this moment to do something completely new for the collective. We considered balance, concepts of symmetry and understanding the tug of war between success and struggle. It breaks down pretty simply: Two artists, four panels, two each, two sides to the success.
