Kris Kuksi

Kris Kuksi - Imminent Utopia

The world of Kris Kuksi, according to the artist himself is a reflection on “timelessness”, however, not just solely on the motionlessness figures, but something more intrinsic, more primal, or as the Kuksi puts it “forced into the stillness of death and eternal sleep”. These premises led him to the best possible medium to express these possibilities, 3-D sculptures. A mishmashes of popular culture, from vinyl toy figures, model kits, to furniture parts and mechanical hardware, Kuksi created body of arts which micmic Baroque and Rococo stylings. Yet, it retains a macabre sense of grandeur and frailness of life.

To see some of Kris Kuksi’s elaborate 3-D sculptural installations, Joshua Liner Gallery in Chelsea, New York, will be exhibiting “Beast Anthology” this month. A total of 12 works will be on display, each will focus on the theme of morality and conflict that arise from within. Kris Kuksi’s “Beast Anthology” will start off tomorrow, November 21st, and ends on Saturday, December 19th. A definite must see if you are in the New York metro area.

Plastiq Passion

Personally, I think this band is as real as they come. If your looking for Today's New Band Plastiq Passion will fill that void. With smart lyrics and catchy hooks you will most def add them to your Christmas
list this year.

About Plastiq Passion
The members of plastiq (pronounced Plas-stick) passion saw an opportunity to take an older genre near and dear to their hearts (new wave) and add to it a modern edge (a la Sleater-Kinney). Add a little blood, sweat and tears and from the fires Plastiq Passion was born, a band with a clear vision to make the music that they would want to hear: polished and heart-felt songs blending the sounds of yesterday with the sounds of today. And what better way to do so than to name their band after a Cure song keeping all but one letter the same. Since their immaculate conception they have played every respectable establishment (and also dive) that New York City has to offer including (but not limited to) CBGB's, The Mercury Lounge and Pianos. They have also played some excellent New Jersey establishments like Maxwell's and The Whiskey Bar. During the summer of 2008 they heroically embarked on a nation-wide tour and received excellent responses from audiences all over the country. Nowadays they are busy recording their first full length album that is sure to impress. In the meantime look for plastiq passion rocking the local tri-state area scene and also your life. Plastiq Passion is Jessica Chaos (heart), Susan Therancy (fire), Deborrah Sanchez (water), and Stacey Lee (earth), and harnessing the power of Gaia together they create CAPTAIN PLANET...on stage.

Boobies

The latest work from prolific street artist Dan Witz is at both intense and unreal. It seriously has blown me away. Always one to simultaneously work and play with the natural urban settings around him, Dark Doings is no exception. Dan's work always leaves me feeling inspired and in a state of "holy shit". But this new group, took me to another level entirely. It left me feeling haunted in only the way incredible art can. It also left me unable to look at creepy steel doors the same again. Dark Doings opens tomorrow night at Carmichael Gallery in LA. Should be an incredible show. You can see more on Dan's flickr page.
